In 2022, Saved By The Sign was commissioned by Deaf Australia to research, write and develop a comprehensive anti racism eLearning programme for the Australian Deaf community. Developed over a 12 month period, the programme drew on extensive historical research, community consultation and interviews with First Nations and racialised Deaf people to ensure the content reflected both lived experience and broader social, cultural and historical realities.

Consisting of 13 lessons and more than 100 learning topics, the programme explores African and Indigenous histories, colonisation, race and racism, human rights, Pan Africanism, identity, intersectionality, allyship and social movements, alongside the experiences of First Nations and racialised Deaf communities in Australia. By bringing together community knowledge, historical analysis and contemporary anti racism frameworks, the programme supports learners to critically examine systems of inequality and contribute to more equitable and inclusive Deaf communities.

Deaf Australia is currently translating the programme into Auslan, expanding access for Deaf learners across Australia and ensuring the resource is accessible to the communities it was designed to serve.
