Vision, Mission, Pillars

Belonging is our starting point. Our vision, mission and pillars grow from the belief that no one should have to struggle to exist or cut away parts of themselves to belong. We are guided by Ubuntu ( “I am because we are” ) and shaped by the Belonging Design Principles, which remind us that systems can be reimagined when those most excluded help to design them.

Our Vision

We imagine a world where racialised and marginalised Deaf communities are not forced to the margins, but leading change. A world where belonging is designed into every structure, and where Deaf voices shape culture, policy and practice.

Our Mission

Our mission is to bring people together across cultures and experiences through media, advocacy and education. We create spaces of learning, creativity and organising where equity is not an afterthought but a lived practice.

Our Pillars

Our work rests on seven pillars that guide everything we do:

01
Arts & Media
using creativity and storytelling to reclaim narratives and shift culture
02
Healing & Justice
building spaces of care, restoration and resilience
03
Organising
supporting grassroots leaders and community movements
04
Policy & Advocacy
pushing for systemic change and accountability
05
Research & Education
grounding practice in knowledge, history and identity
06
Culture
sustaining traditions and creativity as sources of pride and connection
07
Ubuntu
I am because we are: centring interdependence, collective care and shared humanity
